Hello Whittier City School District Staff and Family Community,

 

I am excited to join the Whittier City School District community as superintendent to partner with you as we endeavor to inspire the imagination of students and serve their individual academic, socio-emotional and physical needs. I am more convinced than ever of the importance and privilege of being an educator because we get to help shape the lives of children. My 30+ years as an educator has ingrained in me the understanding of the critical roles played by the school, the home and the student as we work together to maximize the educational experience of every child. Education was the difference-maker in my life as it opened up many opportunities for me as a child growing up in a single-parent home in San Bernardino. I believe education is the key to unlocking the door to a world of options for all of our children and I am excited to engage in that work in the Whittier City School District.

 

I spent my first week on the job visiting all of our schools and programs and beginning to familiarize myself with the wonderful opportunities that are provided for the students of Whittier City School District. I enjoyed sitting down and talking with each principal about their own educational journey and the role significant individuals played in their personal development. I also had the opportunity to walk each of our campuses and begin seeing our schools through the eyes of our principals.

 

I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season and a wonderful time connecting with family and friends. I hope you and your families stay healthy during the holidays and that everyone is able to find time to relax, recharge and reflect on the year that just passed while looking forward to the year that lies ahead.

 

The Board of Trustees and I are committed to working together with all WCSD parents/guardians, students, teachers, staff members, and the entire school community to continue to provide excellent educational programs in a safe and nurturing environment for all of our students.

 

I look forward to the weeks and months ahead where I will be able to meet and talk with many of you. I am so excited to begin engaging in this work and serving the community of Whittier.
