The California PBIS Coalition Recognizes Eight Whittier City Schools

Whittier City Schools have again been recognized by the California PBIS Coalition. This time, the Community Cares recognition was awarded for "outstanding contribution of support and care during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and resulting disruptions to school." Schools recognized include: Christian Sorensen Science Academy, Lou Henry Hoover Elementary School, Mill School and Technology Academy, Orange Grove Elementary School, West Whittier Elementary School, Wallen L. Andrews School, Katherine Edwards Middle School - STEAM and Dual Immersion Academy and Walter F. Dexter Middle School.

“Our schools have truly risen to the challenge of supporting students during this crisis,” WCSD Superintendent Dr. Maria Martinez-Poulin said. “I am grateful to the teachers, staff and administrators that did the exceptional work behind what this recognition means.”

Schools also nominated community partners that provided essential support last spring, including WCSD Food Services, the Boys And Girls Club of Whittier and the City of Industry Sheriff Station.

Schools and community partners will be acknowledged at the 2020 California PBIS Virtual Conference on September 21, 2020.
