Pursuant to Education Code Section 60119(1A), the governing Board shall conduct a public hearing for the purpose of determining whether each pupil in each school in the district has or will have prior to the end of the fiscal year, sufficient standards-based textbooks and instructional materials, or both.

 

Education Code Section 60119(c)(1) states that sufficient textbooks or instructional materials means, "each pupil, including English Learners, has a standards-aligned textbook or instructional materials, or both, to use in class and to take home. This does not require two sets of textbooks or instructional materials for each pupil." This specifically applies to four subject areas: reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and history-social science.

 

The district administration recommends that the Board declare a public hearing for public input.
